It was thoroughly exhilarating visiting Istanbul for the 2nd instalment of Gaye and Baris’ wedding celebrations. They had their ‘official’ wedding ceremony in Tuscany the previous weekend and then flew to Istanbul for a huge party with extended family, documented below. What a beautiful, cultural city full of interesting places to see. I travelled a few days before the wedding party so I could have some time exploring the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque, sample some local food and many more things besides that. You can see some pictures I took in my first few days here. Although I confess carrying my camera every day in the 35 degree heat whilst trying to get from A to B in a bustling city was not my idea of fun! The wedding party on the penultimate day of my trip was held at A’jia Hotel and Restaurant which is right on the Bosporus with the most amazing outlook from the terrace, a private boat and wonderful food. I couldn’t have imagined a more amazing location it was truly spectacular. Gaye and Baris invited guests to arrive from 6.30 in the evening to avoid the midday heat and the champagne flowed until guests sat for dinner at 8 to the backdrop of the sun setting over the aqua coloured Bosporus which was sublime. Gaye wore her fabulous wedding gown again for the Istanbul celebrations and I was very impressed to see it was almost in perfect condition after the previous weekend in Tuscany (and I heard it had been a lovely shade of black following some all night dancing!) and it photographed wonderfully. I left the party after midnight after spending an amazing day with everyone involved: the wedding planners, the video guys and Gaye & Baris’ family and friends… it was a joy to be part of the team.
